Sarah Behal began her musical journey on the violin at around age 8 studying under Akron Symphony musician Sarah (Angus) Husak. Immediately developing a strong love of music, she began the clarinet in 5th grade and studied both extensively from then on. Ms. Behal has a BME (Bachelors of Music Education) from the University of Mount Union. During her education at Mount Union, Ms. Behal tripled on clarinet, violin, and viola. She studied clarinet extensively under the tutelage of Jayne Naragon. She was also throughout the course of her 4 years at Mount Union principal 2nd violin, principal viola, and principal clarinet in the Alliance Symphony Orchestra. She has also played viola in the Tuscarawas Philharmonic as well at the Stow Symphony Orchestra which she is principal viola of.
She completed her first wave of student teaching with Ms. Crystal Sabik at Alliance City Schools. During her time at Alliance she took over the middle school orchestras as well as assisted with the the high school orchestra. She then completed her student teaching at St. Raphaela's Secondary School for Girls in Stillorgan, Ireland. She had the opportunity to travel to Prague with her competition choir and assist them in winning Silver their first time ever at the international competition, "Young Prague."
Upon graduating from the University of Mount Union, Ms. Behal was immediately hired as the Orchestra Director for Dover City Schools. She took the orchestra to Solo and Ensemble as well as OMEA State Orchestra Contest, achieving Excellent and Superior ratings with her students. During her time at Dover, she consistently taught private violin, viola, cello, and clarinet lessons. Many of her students have gone on to major and minor in music at universities, achieving music scholarships for their abilities.
Ms. Behal currently is the Orchestra Director for Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools. Last year, her orchestra achieved a Superior (the highest possible) rating at OMEA State Orchestra Adjudication. She also took the orchestra to Music in the Parks at Cedar Point where the orchestra won the titles of 1st place AA Orchestra and Best Overall Orchestra. Ms. Behal's students, both in her schools districts as well as her private students, consistently earn Superior and Excellent ratings.
Ms. Behal loves conducting ensembles as well as helping students one-on-one. She is excited to teach at the Falls School of Music and be able to use her expertise of both woodwinds and strings as well as her general love of music to help as many students as possible achieve their personal musical goals! Ms. Behal believes every student learns differently and she loves to adapt and find a style that works for each person. She looks forward to finding what helps YOU meet and exceed your aspirations!
